Colorado Western Slope

Tourettes and Tic Disorders Support

Our Mission

The Western Slope TAA Support Group is the third volunteer-run organization established in Colorado established to promote the mission of the Tourette Association of America in support of families of individuals with Tourette Syndrome or Tic Disorders. The other two are the Denver Metropolitan Area TAASupport Group and the Northern Colorado TAA Support Group.

We are dedicated to making life better for all people in Colorado affected by Tourettes and Tic Disorders. Our activities include: (1) providing information to educateour families; (2) identifying health care professionals who can support families; (3) provide in-service presentations to educators seeking to understand the impact of Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorders on students (4) offering in-person and virtual meetings ofTS families.

We are aimed at supporting those in the following Western Slope towns:

Telluride, Durango, Montrose, Gunnison, Summit County, Vail, Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, Winter Park, Steamboat, and any other towns where people are seeking information and support.

Defining the Western Slope

The “Why” behind our mission

Support Groups

As the Western Slope Support Group, we plan to host in-person and virtual sessions led by professionals in order to encourage the growth and comfort of those experiencing Tourette’s and Tic Disorders in their daily life. We provide various services to meet the family’s needs, including educational resources and presentations on top of our interactive support groups.

As we are only starting to develop, we are still in the process of establishing support groups; however, as we get more involvement and gauged interest, we can expand and focus on individuals’ specific interests and needs. For now, keep looking for services and meetings offered through our communications. Send us a message, and we will get back to you, answering any questions or concerns you may have!

Our Steering Committee

  • An Occupational Therapist certified by the TAA to provide CBIT training to those formally diagnosed with TS/Tic Disorders. She has a medical practice in Loveland, is on the Colorado TAA Executive Committee, works closely with the OTs in the Integrative Tic Clinic, and has several CBIT clients in the Western Slope to whom she provides support virtually. In recognition of the needs of her clients on the Western Slope, she was the member of our Executive Committee who first proposed that we pursue a plan to support families in this area.

  • Is a student at Vail Mountain School who has been diagnosed with a Tic Disorder, has been a patient at the hospital’s Integrative Tic Clinic successfully completed CBIT training, and is an advocate for extending knowledge and support regarding TS/Tic Disorders to her area of Colorado. She recently completed a comprehensive senior research project on individuals who have TS/Tic Disorders and turn to music and the arts, as she has, for sustenance and emotional support. Becoming a member of this team and specifically being charged with establishing our website and our initial database of individuals is a fitting culmination of her school project.

  • Is an Occupational Therapist who has been certified by the TAA to deliver CBIT training. In fact, Kate was a founding member of CHCO’s Integrative Tic Clinic who works regularly with patients with TS/Tic Disorders. She will be the conduit to CHCO as we seek ways in which to take advantage of their ventures into the Western Slope.

  • Is the Leader of the Denver Metropolitan Support Group and has been active in the projects listed in the attached document. He has also worked with families in this geographical area who have requested in-service presentations to school officials and assistance with securing support with CHCO physicians. He is familiar with the challenges and benefits of setting up a support group and works closely with many of the national TAA offices on local and national initiatives.
